Anaerobic Digestion of Waste seminar

Wednesday, April 18, 2018

The IWMSA's Central Branch invites you to our seminar on Anaerobic Digestion of Waste which will be presented by Otto Hager, co-founder of iBert a leading bio-gas solutions company.

The disposal of large amounts of organic waste (such as garden waste, sewage sludges, manure, abattoir and food waste) has caused significant environmental impacts and financial costs globally due to traditional disposal methods (i.e. landfilling, incineration, and aerobic composting). Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a promising technology for organic waste management, but has not yet been fully applied due to a few technical and social challenges. It can be used as a renewable energy source and also creating valuable by-products.

The day's discussions will enlighten the attendees on anaerobic digestion of waste and opportunities.

Seminar topics:

  • The anaerobic digestion process, i.e. the bacteriological process and the products generated;
  • What is the advantage/benefits over aerobic digestion;
  • Existing plants – success stories;
  • Types of waste being subjected to anaerobic digestion;
  • Usage of by-products, for instance the methane and digested material;
  • Constrains and pitfalls;
  • Opportunities – for instance domestic waste;
  • Green Tax benefits.
