Q. Do I need to register or have a licence or permit to transport waste?

A. Depending on the area where you intend to operate it may be required.  The Waste Act allows for provinces and municipalities to require any person who transports waste for gain to register with the province or municipality as the case may be.  Therefore it is advisable to contact the relevant municipality and/or provincial department responsible for waste management in the area where you plan to operate for provincial and municipality specific requirements in this regard.

 

Q. Which companies can I contact to provide waste management/removal/disposal services for Hazardous waste?


A. Consult the buyers guide.  Waste companies are listed as well as the services that they can provide.

 

Q. Where can I find out where to take sanitary or HCRW for disposal?


A. Contact the  National Department of Environmental Affairs for information on authorised treatment and disposal facilities for HCRW.

 

Q. I am interested in starting a recycling program at my office / school / neighbourhood. How do I get started?


A. Please refer to the National Recycling Forum’s information page, as well as the IWMSA’s Win with Waste page. It will provide you with an easy to follow guide to start a recycling program, as well as provide you with contact information of all the recycling companies that collect specific recyclables.

A. The IWMSA does not supply any containers, please contact the various recycling organisations directly that will be able to assist you with the supply of containers.
